Year 2000 chemical process malfunctions feared

Article Abstract:

The federal government of the United States is investigating what risks the Y2K computer problem could have on small companies that handle toxic chemicals. The EPA requires about 66,000 facilities to risk management plans by June for dealing with the problem. The EPA also points out that many small companies are not part of this number. Concerned people mention possible systems malfunction in companies that could release toxic material into the air, and water. Small companies are being scrutinized as they are said to have the fewest resources to prevent Y2K-related mishaps.
