Yeast genome sequence ferments new research

Article Abstract:

The complete genome for brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, was announced recently, making it the most complex organism sequenced. Begun in Europe as an effort to sequence a single chromosome, the project involved 100 European laboratories and labs in the UK, US, Canada and Japan.

Europeans move on from yeast to TB

Article Abstract:

Britain's Wellcome Trust announced its plans to fund research to sequence the genomes of tuberculosis and malaria. The imbalance of the 4.5 million base pairs of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, make it difficult to sequence. Plasmodium falciparum represents an even greater challenges.
