Age-related differences in the detection of three-dimensional surfaces from optic flow

Article Abstract:

Some of the abilities that change with age include the ability to detect 3-dimensional surfaces and the ability to distinguish motion coherence of two-dimensional images. Two groups of old and young adults were tested for visual acuity in perceiving whether the images presented corresponded to a random velocity pattern of a corrugated or a flat surface. Variances in performance were more marked among the group of aged subjects that in the younger group.

The effect of age, retinal eccentricity, and speed on the detection of optic flow components

Article Abstract:

Two experiments were undertaken to determine the manner of age-related differences in visual motion processing. The first experiment quantified the difference of lamellar flow from age across the visual field while the second experiment detected radial flow. Results showed that there was a significant difference in human motion detection system between younger and older adults. Older women manifested decline for the detection of lamellar flow.

Age-related differences in collision detection during deceleration

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the effect of age on detecting potential collisions during deceleration are discussed. A group of young and older people were tested and the analysis of their results is presented.
