Aging, memoryload, and resource allocation during reading

Article Abstract:

Effect of memory load on online sentence understanding was investigated, the young and the old adults read a series of short passages with or without a simultaneous updating task, which would be expected to deplete resources by consuming memory capacity. The results suggested that older readers showed relatively greater levels of resource allocation to conceptual integration than the younger adults when under load, regardless of working-memory span or task priority.

Multivariate modeling of age and reset in longitudinal studies of cognitive abilities

Article Abstract:

Correlates of change between memory and processing speed and the contribution of age and retest to such change correlates are examined using longitudinal multivariate mixed models. It is suggested that age alone does not capture such a co-variation although the changes in memory and processing speed may be correlated over time.

A meta-analytic review of prospective memory and aging

Article Abstract:

According to a meta-analysis of prospective memory (PM) studies, younger participants outperform older participants on tests of both time-and event-based PM, in laboratory settings. However, the older participants perform substantially better than their younger counterparts in naturalistic PM studies.
