Assessing life expectancies of older nursing home residents

Article Abstract:

The quality of care at a nursing home is often measured by the survival rates of the residents. A mathematical model was developed to predict the survival of residents and further improve the quality of care. The study showed that among 1145 residents, predictors of decreased survival were male gender, increased age, impairment of cardiac, neurological, cardiac, endocrine, and metabolic systems.

Effect of tamoxifen on bone fractures in older nursing home residents

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the link between tamoxifen (TAM) treatment and rate of bone fractures in older nursing home residents. Researchers studied 93,031 women aged 65 years and older, each being treated with at least one medication. Results showed that treatment with 20 mg TAM daily did not offer protection against bone fracture, but daily 10 mg did offer some protection.
