Cardiovascular aging research: the next horizon

Article Abstract:

Successful human aging in the context of cardiovascular function depends on many factors. Future research will interpret the benefits of physical activity, nutritional status, genetics and therapies to enhance any given lifestyle factors. Hemodynamics deteriorate over time, affecting the reserve capacity and arterial supply. A research agenda for the new millennium is included.

Caring for the whole person: Integrated health care for older adults with severe mental illness and medical comorbidity

Article Abstract:

An overview of selected research findings on the prevalence and causes of medical comorbidity in schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses (SMIs) is provided. Existing challenges to providing quality health care are discussed and directions for integrated models of care for the older person with a SMI are suggested.

Relationship between homocysteine and cardiovascular diseases in older adults

Article Abstract:

The relationship between homocysteine and risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke is determined. Homocysteine demonstrates angiotoxicity by causing endothelial injury, platelet activation and thrombus formation.
