Clinical profile of delirium in older patients

Article Abstract:

A descriptive, point prevalence study with a cross-sectional design has been carried out to investigate prevalence, psychiatric and behavior symptoms, diurnal variations of delirium and differing symptom profiles in 717 older patients. Results indicate that patients with delirium have very different clinical profiles which might show a need for different treatment methods for patients whose types of delirium differ.

Delirium before and after operation for femoral neck fracture

Article Abstract:

Research on elderly patients hospitalized with neck fractures shows that risk factors for preoperative and postoperative delirium are distinct, which indicates that different strategies should be devised for their prevention. Patients who exhibited delirium prior to fracture surgery had poorer health outcomes in general than did patients who experienced postoperative delirium only.
