Effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use on the rate of gastrointestinal hospitalizations among people living in long-term care

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and the incidence of gastrointestinal complications among elderly nursing home residents. Findings indicate that use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs significantly increases the risk of experiencing a gastrointestinal event in both men and women in this population.

Persistent nonmalignant pain and analgesic prescribing patterns in elderly nursing home residents

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of used analgesics, their prescribing patterns and associations with particular diagnoses and medications in patients with persistent pain is determined. Persistent pain was prevalent in nearly 49 percent of nursing home patients and 46.9 percent of analgesics were administered as standing doses.

Obesity in nursing homes: an escalating problem

Article Abstract:

A study on the obesity in nursing home residents is presented. It is observed that the ratio is increasing. The reasons for this trend are analyzed and the concerns related to nursing homes emerging there from are discussed.
