Effects of the Balanced Budget Act on Medicare home health utilization

Article Abstract:

The effects of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 on Medicare home healthcare utilization by older adults in different income groups are examined. The Medicare home health expenditure in lower income group declined by $1,404 between 1997 and 1998 which is four times the reduction in expenditures in middle-income group and more than twice the reduction in high-income group.

Validation of the late-life function and disability instrument

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess the concurrent and predictive validity of the late-life function and disability instrument (LLFDI). The results indicate that the LLFDI scales can be used, as a substitute for physical performance tests when self-report is a preferred data-collection format.

Cognitive screening using a taperecorder: a pilot study

The determination of whether a tape recorder can be used to administer cognitive testes efficiently and yield valid results are reviewed. The details about the tape-administration of cognitive test material warrants as an efficient mean is discussed.
