Health-life expectancy according to various functional levels

Article Abstract:

A 2-year prospective study of 3,590 older rural people in Japan has been carried out to estimate disability-free life expectancy related to three functional levels. It was found that the progress of disability was slow in women. This puts a heavy burden on health and welfare resources. Interventions to delay onset of disability in women should cut the economic burden to society and improve quality of life. In men disability came earlier and progressed more rapidly.
