Historical perspective on pressure ulcers: the decubitus ominosus of Jean-Martin Charcot

Article Abstract:

Jean-Martin Charcot's study on decubitus ominosus or pressure ulcers is discussed and the modern medical and nutritional treatments of these ulcers are mentioned. Pressure ulcers are associated with severe illness and quite often result in mortality. They also mark inadequate care, which is of particular relevance in case of elderly patients.
