Inflammatory markers and incident mobility limitation in the elderly

Article Abstract:

The relationship between indicators of inflammation and the incidence of mobility limitation in older persons is examined. The findings indicate that inflammation is prognostic for incident mobility limitation over 30 months, independent of cardiovascular disease events and incident severe illness.

Airflow limitation is underrecognized in well-functioning older people

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the prevalence of dyspnea or airflow limitation in otherwise healthy older people. Findings suggest that airflow limitation or shortness of breath is often present and underrecognized in the aged population.

Prognostic value of usual gait speed in well-functioning older people - results from the health, aging and body composition study

Article Abstract:

Cutpoints for usual gait speed are defined clinically. The prognostic value of usual gait speed for parameters pertaining to health of older persons is investigated.
