Effects of T'ai Chi training on function and quality of life indicators in older adults with osteoarthritis

Article Abstract:

A prospective randomized controlled clinical trial has been carried out over 12 weeks of intervention with outcomes measured before and after, using blinded testers to determine effects of T'ai Chi training on arthritis self-efficacy, quality of life indicators and lower extremity functional mobility in older osteoarthritis sufferers. Finding show a moderate T'ai Chi intervention can enhance life in the aspects examined. It can be considered a safe and effective complementary therapy.

The activities of daily vision scale: a useful tool to assess fall risk in older adults with vision impairment

Article Abstract:

Cross-sectional assessments of visual function and retrospective collection of fall data were carried out to assess validity of the Activities of Daily Vision Scale (ADVS) as a tool to evaluate fall risk in older adults with impaired vision. Results suggest that the ADVS may be a useful tool to assess fall risk in older adults with vision impairment especially in those with diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and/or cataracts.

Intense tai chi exercise training and fall occurrences in older, transitionally frail adults: a randomized, controlled trial

Article Abstract:

A controlled trial determined whether an intense tai chi exercise program could reduce the risk of falls more than a wellness education program in older adults. Findings indicate that the tai chi programs did not reduce the risk ratio of falling in transitionally frail, older adults.
