Loneliness and nursing home admission among rural older adults

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to analyze the relation between loneliness and subsequent admission to nursing home of about 3,000 rural older Iowans. Results indicate that higher levels of loneliness increase the possibility of nursing home admission. The impact of extremely high loneliness on nursing home admission remain significant over and above other factors such as age, education, income, mental condition, morale and social contact.
