Exercise and weight loss in obese older adults with knee osteoarthritis: a preliminary study

Article Abstract:

Exercise and weight loss have been investigated in a preliminary study in 24 obese adults older than 59 with knee osteoarthritis using a single-blind two-arm randomized clinical trial conducted for 24 weeks. Findings show that weight loss can be achieved and sustained over a 6-month period using diet and exercise with improvements in performance and decreased disability and pain. Exercise and diet together vs exercise alone may help gait. Both groups exercised for one hour 3 days/wk.
