Making difficult decisions about hospice enrollment: what do patients and families want to know?

Article Abstract:

A study on defining patients' and families' priorities for information about hospice indicates that most patients and families who are referred for a hospice information visit know little about hospice and have substantial information needs. Referring physicians and hospice teams might help to provide better hospice treatments.

Hospice usage by minorities in the last year of life: results from the national mortality followback survey

Article Abstract:

Radical variations in rates of hospice use in a national cohort are examined and individual characteristics associated with hospice use are identified. The results indicated that some cultural processes may shape differences between African Americans and whites in advance care planning and hospice use.

Timing of hospice referral and families' preceptions of services: are earlier hospice referrals better?

A study determining the feelings of patients' families who enroll at the end of life believe that they obtained less benefits that patients' families who enroll very early is presented.
