Health, functional, and psychological outcomes among older persons with chronic dizziness

Article Abstract:

A population-based prospective cohort study has been carried out in 1087 persons 72 and older, to find the range of adverse outcomes associated with chronic dizziness. It was concluded that reducing symptoms and alleviating physical, social and psychological disability that come from them is desirable. Identifying and treating discrete diseases causing the dizziness is often expensive and unrewarding.

Mismatches between the home environment and physical capabilities among community-living older persons

Article Abstract:

The homes of older people with functional problems should be equipped to ease transfers, balance, and gait deficits. A survey of environmental hazards in the homes of 1,088 older citizens pointed to the prevalence of low chairs, obstructed pathways, and loose throw rugs regardless of physical frailty. Grab bars in the bath tub or shower were more often installed in the homes of older frail people than in those of people without deficits, if they were installed at all.
