Polymorphic variation in the human myostatin (GDF-8) gene and association with strength measures in the Women's Health and Aging Study II cohort

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the genetic aspects of skeletal muscle loss in old age, focusing on the role of the human myostatin gene in this process. Findings link the R153 allele with lower muscle strength in otherwise high-functioning aged women.
