Stereotyping of older adults: the role of target facial cues and perceiver characteristics

Article Abstract:

A survey of 161 adults was conducted to find out stereotypes of older persons based on photographs. Results show that survey participants tended to attribute fewer positive characteristics to photographs of older individuals and who showed neutral facial expressions. In addition, women's photographs were the object of more negative stereotypes than others except in the case of men who were aged 80 and above.
