Stroke prophylaxis in institutionalized elderly patients with atrial fibrillation

Article Abstract:

The patterns and predictors of antithrombotic use are described and appropriateness of the therapy for stroke prophylaxis in institutionalized elderly patients with atrial fibrillation is assessed. Studies reveal that the patients' risk factors for stroke and bleeding were not always considered while prescribing antithrombotic therapy.

Functional and cognitive consequences of silent stroke discovered using brain magnetic resonance imaging in an elderly population

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of silent stroke and its associated consequences on physical, cognitive and emotional functioning in an elderly population is evaluated. The conclusion states that the presence of silent stroke has a considerable effect on cognitive performance in those affected.

Low well-being is an independent predictor for stroke in elderly patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Article Abstract:

Elderly diabetic patients are examined to evaluate whether psychological factors are risk factors for development of stroke in them. Low well-being, increased symptom and social burden were assessed as predictors of stroke.
