A composite indicator of a firm's innovativeness. An empirical analysis based on survey data for Swiss manufacturing

Article Abstract:

Previous research used either a single indicator or a small number of indicators to characterize innovative activities. However, basing innovation on only a few indicators is inappropriate, given the complexity of the innovation process. A more accurate description of a firm's innovation intensity can be gleaned by using a composite measure developed by factor analyzing several innovation variables. The measure is applied to a data set of Swiss manufacturing firms.
