Constitutional causes for technological leadership: why Europe?

Article Abstract:

The reasons for the technological takeoff in Europe when other areas of the world looked much better poised for technological and scholarly leadership is discussed. The factors conducive to securing Europe's leadership in technology and scholarship are said to have their causes in the Treaty System of Westphalia of 1648.

Privacy, technology, and social change

Article Abstract:

The ways in which respect for privacy can be balanced with justifiable uses of new and more sophisticated technology, such as DNA profiling, thermal imaging and face scanning is discussed. The constructionist model focuses on the activities by which people seek to change some social condition.
