Clergy as sexuality educators: What are seminaries doing? What do they need to do?

Article Abstract:

Sexual beliefs and religious beliefs are often intertwine for many people, but help on sexuality issues from clergy is sought less, suggesting a need for seminaries to focus attention on sexual health. Research into the current status and definition of sexuality education in accredited US institutions providing post-baccalaureate education, found that sexuality education was viewed as part of an ongoing process, but that the sexuality content of courses was often incorporated into other courses. A recurrent theme was the search for 'middle ground' where students could consider both negative and positive aspects of sexuality.

Building cultural competence: advocates for youth's guide to working with youth of various backgrounds

Article Abstract:

Cultural competence in a professional is the most important requirement for enhancing the standards of sexual education, HIV/AIDS education in particular, to teenagers and families from different social and ethnic backgrounds. Attaining cultural competence is a tedious and complex process but, if achieved, can greatly improve the quality of sexual education to youth from all sections of the society.
