Context, event, politics: recovering the political in the work of Jacques Derrida

Article Abstract:

The article discusses the work of French philosopher Jacques Derrida and analyzes whether he was a political thinker. His 1971 essay "Signature, Event and Context" that rethinks the concepts of language, context and the performative, and 'political' essay "Force of Law: The Mystical Foundations of Authority" demonstrate their transformative capacity which proves that he was a genuine political philosopher.

A harsh and hostile land: Edward Abbey's politics and the Great American desert

The article discusses the works of Edward Abbey in which he aesthetically presents a vision of the Southwestern American desert implying a certain ethics and politics. The manner in which his ealtermodernistE texts have inspired several people to join environmental causes in the United States by pursuing strategies of political change is discussed.

Hostis humani generis: devils, natural right, and terror in the French revolution

Article Abstract:

The article analyses the legal concept of 'hostis humani generis' or "enemy of the human race" and discusses its contribution to reign of Terror and State violence in the French Revolution. The background of the theological and juridico-political liberal natural right traditions which resulted in the executions is discussed.
