Factors relating to misanthropy in contemporary American society

Article Abstract:

Social capital is seen as a bond holding society together as well as a quality that allows society to function more smoothly. There is concern that social capital could be disappearing in the US. Misanthropy is linked to low levels of education and low incomes, with lack of education having a stronger effect. It is also linked to belonging to a subordinate and isolated group, and is linked to non-economic problems such as bad health and being a victim of crime. It is also linked to fundamentalist views and to not going to church. Misanthropy has increased but not on a large scale over the long term.

A life events approach to developing an index of societal well-being

Article Abstract:

A life events approach offers a theoretical and practical method for the identification and analysis of the quality of life of members of society. It provides solid data on the present and important social problems that beset members of the community that can be subsequently use for framing public policies that answer these problems. This method is not only utilized for determining specific problems, but by interconnecting these findings it can also provide for a more marginal overviewof the social problems.

Some aspects of measuring education

Article Abstract:

The study considers the various aspects of education, their measurement and the difficulties attached with measuring education across time. Education is one of the most significant variables in social science research, and hence should be measured in a more complete and detailed manner than is typically done. This will clarify and refine the understanding of education's relationship with other variables.
