Article Abstract:

Advocates for alternative lifestyles, whether pro-choice or gay advocates, need to reclaim American symbols such as God, the Bible and family values from the right which uses those symbols to promote intolerance. Biblical stories promote acceptance of other lifestyles while family values stand for more than just heterosexual couples with children. Bill Clinton's inauguration speech spoke about change and advocates for tolerance need to use traditional symbols to promote diversity, pluralism and respect for others.
