Husserl, Weber, Freud, and the method of human sciences

Article Abstract:

The viability and propriety of the naturalistic and phenomenological approach in the human sciences have been analyzed based on the arguments presented by some philosophers. It was argued that an adequate self-understanding of science, both natural and human, requires an in-depth analysis of transcendental phenomenology. This natural attitude can provide an adequate basis not only for ordinary life, but for the conduct of empirical science as well.

Foundations of Niklas Luhmann's theory of social systems

Article Abstract:

Niklas Luhmann's theory of social systems has problems stemming from its basis in the theory of autopoietic systems and the phenomenology of meaning. A revision is suggested that draws on contemporary philosophy of mind. Topics discussed include systems theory and empirical science, actor theory, the concept of social system, and the relationship between individualism and collectivism.

Objectivity, value spheres, and "inherent laws": on some suggestive isomorphisms between Weber, Bourdieu, and Luhmann

Article Abstract:

The views on the basis of the objectivity of the cultural sciences held by Max Weber are presented with particular emphasis on the distinction he made between different 'value spheres'. Parallels are drawn between Weber's 'value spheres' and the basic elements of Bourdieu's field theory and Luhmann's systems theory.
