Innovation in Russian industry: a case study of R & D in transition

Article Abstract:

The declining growth rate of innovation in the Russian industry was brought about by a number of factors affecting research and development during the nation's political and economic transition in 1992. Barriers to innovation included isolation from world environment, absence of criteria for evaluating innovation, shortage of research and testing facilities and bureaucracy in the government. In addition, conditions in the workplace such as decreased productivity and absence of appropriate data and supplies contributed to the slow growth of innovation.

Russian labor market in transition

Article Abstract:

Changes undergone by the labor market in Russia were examined based on data from surveys conducted before and after the Perestroika era. Results revealed that many workplace features common under a centrally-planned economy continued to exist in 1992. Pre- and post-perestroika job search activities were still very similar, but differences were evident with respect to job choice criteria and to opinions about declining productivity.
