Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered youth issues

Article Abstract:

The findings of a range of research projects looking at sexual orientation during adolescence are presented. Some 41.7% of young people do not feel safe in their schools because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning, according to research among 496 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning students linked with local youth service organizations.

What if someone I know is lesbian or gay?

Article Abstract:

Common questions about lesbian and gay young people and teaching about homosexuality in schools are addressed. Reactions to discussions about homosexuality in the classroom can vary considerably between schools and between age groups, with some students showing interest and others hostility or embarrassment.

Social and developmental challenges for lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth

Article Abstract:

Gay, lesbian and bisexual young people often feel alienated from mainstream society from an early age. They face many challenges and tasks as they identify and learn to deal with stigma. It is clear that stigma has a significant effect on behaviour, self-perception and health.
