Models of conflict, negotiation and third party intervention: a review and synthesis

Article Abstract:

A review of the models of conflict, negotiation and third party intervention is presented. The predominant model for conflict is Pondy's organizational conflict model while Walton and McKersie's four subprocesses model is used for negotiation. For third party intervention, Thibaut and Walker's process/decision control and Sheppard's matrix model are the dominant models. All the models have exclusively descriptive or normative designs with underlying assumptions. Research has focused on the creation and not the testing and synthesis of models.

Relationships among five forms of commitment: an empirical assessment

Article Abstract:

The concept of job involvement, as suggested by the revised Morrow model, does not provide an adequate explanation for the correlation of work commitment foci. Under the Morrow's revised model, job involvement is treated as an endogenous variable since it is more situation-affected than any other commitment forms. Such an assumption may be deemed illogical because job involvement is a factor not subject to change.
