NAHRO in San Francisco

Article Abstract:

San Francisco, CA, ranks among the most beautiful cities in the world. In fact, it has been named the best city in the US and the third worldwide from 1988 to 1990. Despite the many attractions San Francisco offers, city managers constantly strive to improve the city. Redevelopment projects are most evident in Yarba Buena, the city's oldest neighborhood which dates back to the 1800s. The San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA) plays a big part in the constant redevelopment of the city. The SFHA provides affordable housing to 30,000 people, 50% of whom are children, and oversees close to 7,000 coventional low-income housing units in the City and County of San Francisco. The city's housing and economic innovations will be seen first hand by those who will attend the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials' National Conference and Exhibition to be held there in Sep 1992.
