Polygyny and democracy: a cross-cultural comparison

Article Abstract:

Polygamous families tend to not flourish in small democratic communities. This finding would help explain that modern democracy first appeared in Europe's Late Middle Ages, which saw many complex societies with small monogamous families in democratic communities.

Evolutionary implications of cross-cultural correlations

The evolutionary inferences could not and should not be made from synchronic data is argued. To support the idea that inferences about specific evolutionary developments can be made based on a synchronic association a test was conducted.

Family size and community organization: a cross-cultural comparison

Family size has been shown to significantly influence community democracy. Both democracy levels and family size have similar curvilinear relationships with cultural complexity.
