Article Abstract:

Psychoanalytic and psycho-social interventions in communities are explored through the examination of the historical developments in the UK of psychoanalytically informed professional practice and by the examination of contemporary examples of this work in Bulgaria and South Africa. The relationship between psychoanalysis, practice and community intervention is reflected upon and critical questions are posed with a view to stimulating debate on the subject.

What's so funny? Video ethnography and drag performance

Article Abstract:

Drag performance subverts the stability of gender as a social category, bringing into view illusory distinctions between masculine and feminine. A documentary video project on the social psychology of drag performance reveals that most people find female impersonators in drag performance funny, even though they cannot explain who or what is the object of the humor.
