Recognizing and remembering today's warriors

Article Abstract:

The way a society remembers and rewards its defenders is a reflection of its values and hence troops today wear awards specific to their war zones after a long and concerted effort to get the appropriate medals. Private efforts have already started to erect comprehensive memorials region wise and have been successful to a certain extent but it is high time the nation thinks as a whole about a national memorial to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

A GI bill for the 21st century

Article Abstract:

The veterans, especially the guard and the reserve ones deserve an education benefit commensurate with the service rendered by them, as this is the only fair and equitable approach possible towards them, who will be the leaders of the nation tomorrow. The country relies entirely on those few who willingly volunteer for military service and it owes them a GI bill that is generous, inclusive and fair with the raising of benefit levels and elimination of veteran contribution.

Illinois serves as beacon for State benefits

Article Abstract:

Illinois, possibly the highest payer of benefits to veterans, has set an example to other States nationwide with its innovative programs to help the soldiers and their families. The future is always uncertain for GIs returning from the war zones and hence the Defense Department is working closely with state governors and legislatures to ensure that veterans and Americans in uniform along with their families receive adequate benefits.
