Remaining off welfare in the 1990s: The influence of public policy and economic conditions

Article Abstract:

The role of the economy and cash assistance policies implemented by states in the early to mid-1990s in maintaining long-term exits from AFDC, using data from then Panel Study of Income Dynamics is evaluated. The contribution of economic conditions and public policies to altering former AFDC recipients' probabilities of returning to public assistance during the pre-PRWORA period of 1989 through 1996 is examined.

Dissolution risks in first and higher order marital and cohabiting unions

Article Abstract:

Norwegian survey is used to study the implications of having multiple unions either by cohabiting or marrying and dissolution risks in first and higher order marital and unions that are based on cohabitation is presented. It was found that couples who were previously married had higher dissolution risks in their second union compared to their first irrelevant of their present type of union.

Cohabiting couples' economic circumstances and union transactions: a re-examination using multiple imputation techniques

Article Abstract:

The attrition and missing partner data, that influence studies of cohabiters' union transitions are examined. The result of the examination suggests that transition from cohabitation to marriage is in fact very different from transitions from single hood.
