Sexual orientation and identity

Article Abstract:

Current issues that concern gays are often paired with inaccurate statements based on homophobia or stereotypes. The Tailhook scandal showed that some heterosexual military men harass women and the Pentagon has not pushed an investigation while gay men and women have been expelled from the military because they might harass someone despite the lack of evidence. All but six states have no protection for gays and many outlaw gay sexual acts or even just gay orientation. Though no one knows what causes homosexuality, it is no longer considered a disease. Other facts are included.

Wyoming horror breaks dam of silence on violence based on sexual orientation

Article Abstract:

The murder of gay student Matthew Shephard because of his sexual orientation has elicited pattern of responses from the University of Wyoming community. Members of the community have cited parallel hate crimes and incidents which occurred in the area. Different symbols such as colors, lighted candles and flowers were used by the people to identify with the tragedy, while others expressed their emotions with music. Other patterns of responses were the offering of explanation and suggestion of solutions.
