The George Washington University forecast of emerging technologies

Article Abstract:

A method called the George Washington University (GWU) forecast of emerging technologies is proposed for the continuous analysis of major technological innovations. The method, which utilizes environmental scanning and trend analysis to determine emerging technologies, effectively captures forecasting data on a broad spectrum of emerging technologies representing all major scientific fields. It is able to yield results that are useful in understanding the nature, scope, timing, likelihood, leadership and influence of ETs constituting the technological revolution.

Article Abstract:

The Voltera-Lotka equations were employed to evaluate the factors contributing to competition between two rivals operating in a particular market niche. Results reveal that factors such as desirability of products, the size of the market niche, and competitor interaction are the prime factors which influence growth. Results can be of importance to firms in devising means of eliminating or reducing advantages of competitors through the analysis of competitive dynamics.
