The Presidential Libraries Act after 50 years

Article Abstract:

The origins of the important Presidential Libraries Act of 1955, which were official repositories designed especially to preserve and make accessible the records of President, are traced. These libraries, all built with nonfederal funds, are operated and maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration and also draw support from affiliated foundations or institutes that help underwrite research grants, outreach program, exhibits and other program and facility enhancements.

The foundation for the national archives

Article Abstract:

A new giving program was created within the Foundation called the Society for the National Archives. This society was created because it's important that the stories of the American experience-those of individuals and families as well as of official government actions-be told.

The regional archives may be the best kept secret of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The public using a regional archive can be automatically introduced to the National Archives.
