The Twentieth Century: An American sexual history

Article Abstract:

The Comstock laws, which took effect in 1873, rendered it illegal to mail or advertise information on sexuality, including information on abortion and contraception. Sex education was approved in 1812 by the National Education Association, although in practice the subject didn't make it to the school curriculum until the early 1920s. An overview of how attitudes to sex developed in the US over the twentieth century is given.

Coming attractions: Sexual expression in the next decade

Article Abstract:

US sexuality education has been boosted by the institutionalisation of the abstinence-only-until-marriage programs, which are funded via a $50 million annual budget for chastity programs. Participating states are required to match 75% of the federal investment in order to benefit from the program, which is gaining popularity in the absence of an alternative and lack of alternative funds.
