The flip side of history

Article Abstract:

The Declaration of Independence, its travels, its owners, its handlers and conditions, such as, economic, social or political at the time of the creation of the document is discussed. The information contained on the back of a historical document can serve as a reminder that the value of a historical document is not just in its obvious content but also in its obscure content and its physical form.

"Jitterbugs" and "Crack-pots": letters to the FCC about the "war of the worlds" broadcast

Article Abstract:

The broadcast of the adaptation 'The war of the worlds' on the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) and the response to it is presented. The letters, telegrams and petitions to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) related to the broadcast reside in two boxes within Record Group 173, Records of the Federal Communications Commission, at the National Archives.

Spotlight on Natal: Our Documents at work in the nation's classrooms

Article Abstract:

"Our Documents", one of the historic documents aims to help students learn the story of their nation and its citizens. The launch of this initiative has encouraged students to produce National History Day projects based on the documents and has incorporated suggestions from the Teacher Source-books into classroom instruction.
