Marital opportunity, parental investment, and teen birth rates of blacks and whites in American states

Article Abstract:

This article examines teen birth rates among whites and blacks in 41 states since 1995. The authors maintain that white teen birth rates increased along with poverty and incarceration rates, and black teen birth rates increased with incarceration rates, but declined with marital opportunity for the mother.

The sex ratio and female marital opportunity as historical predictors of violent crime in England, Scotland, and the United States

Article Abstract:

Regression analysis of temporal variation in violent crime rates investigates the effects of sex ratios and marriage markets on violent crime in England, Scotland and United States. It was concluded that violent crimes against persons increased with sex ratios and illegitimacy in England and Wales, and Scotland, and homicides were inversely related to marital opportunities for women in the United States.

Is the effect of national wealth on academic achievement mediated by mass media and computers?

Article Abstract:

A study is presented which investigates whether cross-national differences in academic achievement could be positively related to information exposure (newspapers, TV, computers). It is found that Math, science, and reading scores were positively correlated with national income and mass media, however, national income per capita was unrelated to math or science achievement.
