The social shaping of technology

Article Abstract:

A literature review is conducted on the concept of 'social shaping of technology' (SST) or the influence of social, economic and technical factors on technological change. The consensus among researchers across varied fields is demonstrated to be catalyzed by negative feedbacks on the conventional models of innovation. The mix of ideas, though not without conflicts in terms of procedure and definitions, resulted to the emergence of an acceptable model of technical change. It is argued that this development of an alternative approach is within the broad concept of SST.
