The two forms of consciousness

Article Abstract:

If identity is socially constructed, there is no place for change to come from; there are no new movements, no fresh ideas, no originality. Based somewhat on an interpretation of Freud's concept of the unconscious, people are unconscious of that which keeps them conscious. Consciousness of one type is what people usually call consciousness, while another kind is the type also known as the life-drive, a kind of biological and physical force which comes in a flash, that which is life and which people repress when it produces unplanned ideas or actions that are not social in their origin.

Must false consciousness be rationally caused?

Article Abstract:

The arguments of Denise Meyerson in her book 'False Consciousness,' which analyzed the Marxist notion of false consciousness by using the tools and results of the analytic philosophy of mind, are refuted. She claimed that the adaptional account of false consciousness must appeal to a psychological element, contrary to explicit declarations of its proponents. Rulers also held ideological beliefs because of the desire to think well of themselves.
