There is no escape from philosophy: Collective intentionality and empirical social science

Article Abstract:

The two empirical research traditions, experimental economics and the social identity approach in social psychology that might be seen as attempts to falsify and verify the theory of collective intentionality, respectively, is examined. The theory of collective intentionality that builds on the notion of we-mode psychology paints a picture of intentional human action and agency very different from the mainstream individualism that dominates the social science.

Plural action

Article Abstract:

The three claims individual intentional autonomy, individual intentional autarky, and intentional individualism are compared. It is concluded that individual intentional autonomy is universal whereas other two claims are not. It is also argued that methodological individualism is based on three mistaken conclusions from one valid insight. It is emphasized that plural action is an important part of life.

When local models fail

Article Abstract:

Models of bureaucratic corruption are examined and their flaws are analyzed. It is concluded that the reasons for the failure of these models is the way they understand the nature of the properties and in their neglect of certain logical components of those properties.
