Total quality management and performance appraisal: an experimental study of process versus results and group versus individual approaches

Article Abstract:

The efficacy of process-focused appraisal was examined in four experimental conditions. The dependent variables used were appraisal satisfaction, perceived appraisal accuracy, performance improvement expectations and actual performance. Results revealed that process-focused appraisal had a greater positive impact on appraisal feedback than results-oriented appraisal. Results also showed that there was little difference between individual- and group-based performance appraisal conditions. The implications for total quality management programs are also discussed.
