A century of effect: legacies of E.L. Thorndike's 'Animal Intelligence' monograph

Article Abstract:

Author E.L. Thorndike's 'Animal Intelligence: An Experimental Study of the Associative Processes in Animals' celebrates its publishing centenary in 1998. The volume is a historically significant monograph because of its enduring effects on the field of psychology and its relevance to contemporary behavior analysis. Three major themes among the numerous legacies of 'Animal Intelligence' are evaluated.

Steps and pips in the history of the cumulative recorder

Article Abstract:

The evolution of the cumulative recorder from B.F. Skinner's early-modified kymographs through various models developed by Skinner and his colleagues to its perfection in the 1950s, and then into the 1960s, is discussed. The cumulative recorder remains an icon of Skinner's approach to psychology.

Researchers study the relationship between response rate and reinforcement rate in pigeons. By limiting pigeons access to food, researchers discover that open and closed economies can produce different behavioral effects in pigeons.
