A grief ignored: narratives of pregnancy loss from a male perspective

Article Abstract:

The article examines the impact of pregnancy loss on the male partners of female patients in Northern Ireland. Men interviewed experienced a marginalization of their loss, with no access to social supports available for other forms of bereavement. Implications for health care settings and community responses are discussed.

'He hath the French pox': stigma, social value and social exclusion

Article Abstract:

The concept of reciprocity is used to show how groups are socially excluded and stigmatized as a means for preventing their exploitation of limited social resources. Patterns of inclusion and exclusion follow decisions regarding the determination of groups as worthy or unworthy of social investment.

The personal significance of home: habitus and the experience of receiving long-term home care

The article examines ways in which the home is changed when health care practices and standards are introduced via long-term home care. Main themes identified are the maintenance of cleanliness and order, politics of aesthetics, and transcending a home's limitations.
