A local model of concurrent performance

Article Abstract:

Concurrent procedures refer to two pairs of schedules that operate one pair at a time. Each pair of schedule reinforces an option while the other schedule encourages shifting to other options. Analysis of contingency effects indicate that alternative options produce variables that follow standard matching laws. Rats that underwent a pair of stay and switch schedules exhibited varied probabilities of reinforcement in different conditions. A model was formulated to take into account the manifested power functions of the ratio of probabilities of reinforcement.

Run length, visit duration, and reinforcers per visit in concurrent performance

Article Abstract:

A research was conducted to investigate the influence of run length, visit duration and reinforcers per visit on concurrent performance and scheduled probabilities of reinforcement. The run length and visit duration were directly correlated with the ratio of the scheduled probabilities and rates of reinforcement. Results indicated that run lengths and visit durations are the critical behavioral factors in concurrent choice studies. They also showed that the analysis of concurrent performance is related to analyses based on changeover rate.

Reinforcing staying and switching while using a changeover delay

Article Abstract:

The local model of concurrent performance may be seen as a possible alternative to the general matching law when modeling concurrent performance. When attempting to account for more molecular features of concurrent performance, the local law may be more preferable.
