A metropolitan village: Nanjing

Article Abstract:

A study of Nanjing village located in Henen Island of Guangzhou covering population structure, Lang usage, production consumption, kinship system, power structure, land usage, the establishment of new regime and land reform, is presented. This tracking study on Nanjing using the methods of observation of social anthropology, not only demonstrates anew the process of cultural evolution of marginal communities, but also provides a transitional bridge for traditional anthropology to study the process from rural village to city.

Family enterprises and extending research on the fieldwork of Francis L.K. Hsu

Article Abstract:

Francis L.K. Hsu was the first to describe the family structure known as 'living under the same roof' in Xizhen, noting that it realizes the Chinese ideal of large, extended family. A study presented on the fieldwork visits in Xizhen showed that the family enterprises coexists and competes with public and state enterprises and whether people establish a family enterprise or some other form of enterprise depends on their own choices and circumstances.

Report on power structures in Mingxing village, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province

Article Abstract:

Mingxing village, one of the central administrative villages of Gaoshan township has seen both success and failure with respect to cultural and social changes. A brief report on the interactions of politics, economy, and culture of the village is given.
