Ambivalence and persuasion: the processing of messages about immigrant groups

Article Abstract:

Individuals with ambivalent attitudes towards immigrant groups of people process persuasive messages about the group more systematically than individuals with nonambivalent attitudes. Among ambivalent individuals, stronger messages lead to more favorable attitudes towards immigrant groups than weaker messages. However, this effect is weak for nonambivalent individuals. The immigrant-group relevant thoughts of both ambivalent and nonambivalent individuals predict their agreement with the message.

Attitude dissimulation and persuasion

Article Abstract:

True attitude towards a message can be increasingly affected by the false assessment regarding the source of a persuasive message. True attitudes can be easily recalled from memory by lying about attitudes. Message-relevant thoughts and attitudes are found to be simultaneously influenced by attitude dissimulation. It is possible that attitude dissimulation can happen in different situations, including face-to-face interaction, written messages and telephone conversations.

Basic human values: Inter-value structure in memory

Article Abstract:

The present experiments investigate the latent structure of human social values in memory. It is found that the time to rate the second value in each pair is shorter when the two values are motivationally congruent or opposing than when they are unrelated.
